Figuring It All Out: What to pack, how to dress, and who I'll be living with!

Roommate assignments came out today! I was anxiously waiting all week. Anyway, I don't have a roommate yet. It says "To Be Arranged." Apparently, they are making roommate assignment changes down to the last minute. There are a total of six girls in the apartment. Another girl Katherine does not have a roommate yet either. So far, I do not know the girls I am going to be living with. I haven't seen then commenting on our Facebook Group. I sent them an email and asked them to join it! A big group of us has been chatting back and forth for a few weeks now. We're already making travel plans and talking about every topic imaginable. haha. There's a girl Sarah who I talked to in the Spring who is in Florence right now for a three week session. She's been so helpful! She posts pictures on Facebook practically every day. She posts pictures of everything! Even the toilet she saw in a train station which looked nothing like a toilet. You have to stand on these ridges beside the toilet and just stand there and go! Ew, gross! She's also given me great tips so far on packing and what to wear. I need more than just towel. My flat sandals aren't going to cut it. I need to bring the Nike shoes and my Chacos even though I'm going to stand out like a sore thumb. It's so interesting to hear about what Italian girls wear. They get dressed up everyday  - even just to go out to the market. It's insulting if someone is wearing shorts and a t-shirt. ha. That's all I wear at UGA. I guess the Nike shorts, cowgirl boots, and oversized sorority T-shirt look isn't going to work over in Italy. Who would have thought? :) I remember my first week at UGA. I couldn't believe what the girls were wearing. It was so odd and so unattractive. But when everyone is wearing that, that style becomes the norm. And I just looked plain weird in my cute sundresses and flowy tops. Whenever I come home from school, my mom just stares at me in my cowgirl boots and shorts. In Roswell, GA this would be the sign of a slut. At UGA, I'm just being a girl. So when I'm in Italy, dresses and skirts, and flowy tops will be the new norm. And my booty shorts have got to go! This is going to be a fashion makeover. Let's see if I can handle it. Walking around all day on cobblestone streets in a nice dress and flats is going to definitely wear me out! I'll need the exercise though to make up for all of that pasta and wine!

Here is the toilet at the train station that I mentioned.
Gross....

  1. I hope you remembered to pack your tennis shoes. Cute shoes and dresses will only take you so far on a hot, long day with all that walking! Oh, and thanks for leaving me the white wedges! (I love those shoes!)
